Bond Support Services strengthens Asia-Pacific support through partnership with CHM Electronics
A partnership built on more than 30 years of trust
As Bond Support Services prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary, the company has announced a strategic partnership with Australian Audio Visual / IT / Security Specialists CHM Electronics, strengthening its support capability across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
For almost two decades and being the first company to do so, Bond Support Services has provided specialist support service for AV, IT, communications, lighting and security systems to the superyacht industry, helping owners, captains, engineers and management companies keep increasingly complex onboard technology operating at its best.
The partnership may be new, but the relationship behind it stretches back more than thirty years. Will Faimatea and Guy Currenti first worked together in Sydney before their careers crossed again onboard some of the world’s largest superyachts, eventually becoming founders of two respected technical support businesses.
Where it all began
Guy joined Honeywell in Sydney as an engineering apprentice, while Will managed the Aerospace & Defence division. “It was my first real engineering job,” recalls Guy. “Will was my boss, and looking back now, I couldn’t have had a better start to my career.”
Unlike many managers, Guy says Will was determined to develop the people around him.
“He really wanted to teach you. Some people don’t want to share their knowledge because they feel threatened, but Will was the opposite. He genuinely wanted me to succeed, and he went out of his way to help me learn.”
Guy’s commitment and work ethic quickly stood out, earning him Honeywell’s Apprentice of the Year award twice – an achievement he describes as highly unusual within the company.
The start of a career in yachting
After leaving Honeywell, Will entered the superyacht industry as one of the sector’s first Electro-Technical Officers (ETOs), before founding Bond Support Services.
Before leaving, Will made Guy a promise. “He said, ‘One day I might ask you to come over,’” Guy remembers. True to his word, Will later recommended Guy for his first position in the superyacht industry, launching a career that would take him aboard some of the world’s largest superyachts, including the build of the 115-metre M/Y Pelorus in Germany.
After more than a decade at sea, Guy returned to Australia and founded CHM Electronics in 2004. Today, the company supports superyachts, luxury residences and commercial environments throughout Australia.
More than two decades later, as CHM Electronics celebrates 22 years in business and Bond Support Services approaches its 20th anniversary, the two companies have reunited, bringing together more than three decades of shared experience and trusted technical expertise.
Built on shared standards
Although Bond Support Services and CHM Electronics have grown independently on opposite sides of the world, both businesses have grown around the same principles: technical excellence, long-term relationships and consistently high standards of service.
For Bond, strengthening its support capability in Australia wasn’t simply about finding another technical partner – it was about working with someone Will had trusted throughout his career.
“Will knows exactly what he’s going to get from me,” says Guy. “We’ve worked together for so many years that we both understand the level of support expected. There’s complete trust and respect between us.”
That trust has been built over decades – not only during their early years at Honeywell, but also later when they worked together aboard M/Y Aviva.
“I could tell when Guy joined Honeywell that he wanted to do well and worked hard to achieve this. This trait struck a chord with me and it’s a trait I still look for today in business relationships. Guy to this day has the same determination and drive and this filters through into his company CHM” – Will
Strengthening support for clients
The partnership further strengthens Bond Support Services’ support capability, giving owners, captains, engineers and management companies access to trusted local technical expertise delivered to the same high standards clients have come to expect from Bond.
It also supports Bond’s “follow the sun” approach to technical support, extending trusted expertise into another key time zone while helping ensure consistent support for clients wherever they operate.
I have seen Guy develop both personally and professionally over a long period of time. We have developed a friendship and trust that comes only with time. We have similar family backgrounds which were built on grit and determination and combined with this trust I see it working well for us both and our clients.
For Bond, this partnership is about more than expanding regional support. It’s about the follow the sun support and working with someone who shares the company’s values, technical standards and commitment to delivering exceptional service.
“Guy started CHM 22 years ago and I started Bond 20 years ago. We both knew each other 10 years before that and now have families and established businesses and clients. This DNA comes naturally to us both as we both developed independently across different continents. This step feels natural and our clients will benefit from it when they require” – Will.
“We’re very loyal to each other, and I have the utmost respect for Will. We’ve known each other for over thirty years, and that’s the foundation this partnership is built on.” – Guy.
